Everyone knows the feeling: You spend 45 minutes concentrating on building something—and then one careless move is all it takes for everything to come crashing down in record time. That’s exactly what this team event is all about. Only this time, chaos is expressly allowed. Together, the team builds a massive chain reaction using wood, ropes, balls, screws, and many other materials. Every element must function perfectly, because in the end, everything is supposed to mesh together like clockwork. At least, that’s the plan.
After just a few minutes, everyone automatically slips into their favorite role: The engineer explains why his system is absolutely foolproof. The optimist says every two minutes, “It’ll work out just fine!” The perfectionist double-checks everything three times. And somewhere, there’s bound to be someone standing with their arms crossed, commenting, “I would have done it differently.” As the structure grows larger and larger, so does the tension. No one dares to move too quickly anymore. Suddenly, even a cough becomes a real danger, and every step feels like walking through a minefield of dominoes.
Then comes the big moment. The entire team gathers, smartphones are pulled out, and someone is given the honorable task of knocking over the first domino. For a few seconds, everything goes perfectly. Domino after domino, ball after ball, mechanism after mechanism. …until either thunderous cheers erupt or the whole thing fails after three seconds because of a single crooked wooden block. In that case, the traditional discussion begins immediately: “Who built this?” – “Well, it wasn’t me!” – “Yes, it was your idea!” Luckily, that’s exactly part of the fun. Because whether the chain reaction works perfectly or fails spectacularly—laughter is guaranteed. And on the second try, it usually goes much better anyway. Usually.
