Every company has them: the coworker who immediately starts singing along to every song, the colleague with the legendary dance moves, and at least one person who suddenly has to make an urgent phone call the moment they hear the word “choreography.” At the lip-dub team event, everyone comes together. Together, they create a rousing music video where they don’t actually sing—they just move their lips in perfect sync. Sound easy? Just wait until everyone has to hit the chorus at the same time.
After a brief introduction, roles are assigned, scenes are planned, and the first dance steps are rehearsed. In no time at all, the office or event venue is transformed into a movie set. Suddenly, managers are running backward down the hallway, the accounting team is dancing with air guitars, and that usually quiet coworker surprisingly turns out to be a natural-born entertainer. The best part: No one needs a perfect voice for a successful lip-dub. After all, no one can hear whether you’re singing in tune—the main thing is that your lips are moving to the beat. And even if that doesn’t quite work out, it usually still looks surprisingly professional in the finished video. Or at least very entertaining.
For the grand finale, everyone watches the finished music video together. Then there’s laughter, applause, and—guaranteed—at least one person will ask, “Was that really me?” The answer is almost always: “Yes—and it looks great!” One thing is certain: The result will keep everyone in good spirits for a long time to come and will most likely be played more than once at future company parties.
